September 8-15, 2014
Sentimental Journey coming to Suffolk, Virginia. The Commemorative Air Force Airbase Arizona's B-17G Flying Fortress, Sentimental Journey, is coming to Suffolk Municipal Airport (SFQ) in Suffolk, Virginia. The heavy bomber arrives Monday, September 8 and departs Monday, September 15. CAF Airbase Arizona will set up for public viewing and static tours of Sentimental Journey, sell PX merchandise and Sentimental Journey rides Monday through Thursday. "Let Freedom Ring" will take place from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Lonesome Pine Airport in Wise, Virginia. Educational event and fly-in featuring the Commemorative Air Force Red Tail Squadron P51-C Mustang and "Rise Above" Traveling Exhibit, and the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation with their C-54 "Spirit of Freedom." A candy drop for the kids commemorating the one that took place during the Berlin Airlift will take place on Saturday, September 20th. 2014 Leesburg Air Show will take place at the Leesburg Executive Airport beginning at 11:00 a.m. and provides a wonderful opportunity to see a snapshot of the general aviation world. The static display area, located on the airport's parking ramp, will feature many unique, experimental, and antique aircraft. The airshow exhibitors will showcase the many facets of general aviation, such as flight training, corporate transportation, and emergency rescue operations. The skies above Leesburg will come alive with skydiving, wingwalking, and aerobatic performances. The event is sponsored by the Town of Leesburg and ProJet Aviation. The program will be Real World Weather presented by Mark Grady. Weather is the single biggest variable in flying. It can turn a long-awaited vacation into a long wait at the FBO, a quick two-hour flight into a tedious four-hour slog, or a stress-free jaunt into a skill-testing ordeal. 15th Annual Culpeper Airfest will take place at Culpeper Regional Airport from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. This free event will thrill spectators with performances by historic warbirds, vintage aircraft, aerobatic performances and headlined by the world’s ONLY civilian-owned-and-operated Sea Harrier jump jet, which can take off and land like a helicopter yet flies at near-supersonic speeds. Other performers include the Flying Circus, B-25 Mitchell Bomber “Panchito”, T-28 TrojanHorseman demo and introducing Jason Flood and his Modified Pitts S-1S; the RED GHOST. On the ground, spectators will be able to explore fascinating aircraft displays, meet pilots andcrewmembers, and experience attractions and exhibits designed to entertain and inspire the young and young-at-heart. Pancake Breakfast at Franklin Municipal Airport (FKN) takes place on the fourth Saturday of each month except December.  Sponsored by the Commemorative Air Force’s Old Dominion Squadron and EAA Chapter 339, each pancake breakfast takes place in the Old Dominion Squadron’s hangar from 8:30 to 10:30 AM.  The cost per person is a $7.00 donation.  For more information, e-mail: OldDominionSquadron@yahoo.com

World War II Veterans Honor Flights via DCA Air Carriers take place each Saturday and Wednesday April-May and Sept.-Oct. from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Terminals A, B, & C. Sponsored by US Airways, AAL, Delta, and Air Tran. Between 100-450 WWII veterans are flown to DCA via charters from various east coast airports to visit the WWII Memorial on the Mall in Washington, DC. Numerous air carriers fly-in vets on chartered flights while other passengers warmly cheer and welcome them back to DCA. 7700+ WWII vets flew into DCA on 64 charter flights during 2009.

National Capitol Squadron (NCS) of Culpeper, Virginia holds a hangar open house on the second Saturday of each month. The NCS is a division of the Commemorative Air Force and is focused on World War II aircraft and honoring past and present veterans and more specifically the aviation history of the 1940's. Virginia Aeronautical Historical Society - Northern Neck-Middle Peninsula Chapter meets at the Pilot House, Hummel Field, in Topping, Virginia in the "Eagle's Nest" at 12 Noon on the third Thursday of each month unless otherwise posted.  Pilots can fly-in and park at the door of the restaurant.   Visitors are welcome at these luncheon meetings.  There is an interesting speaker from the field of aviation each month.  Come visit the "Eagle's Nest" at any time and see the collection of aviation art and other memorabilia.
